A Big Swarm of Pests

A group of young people, trying to relive the Sixties, is staging an “occupation” of Wall Street.  Actually, it’s been going on for two weeks. But New Yorkers being New Yorkers, used to stepping over the bodies of hobos, bums, and bag ladies either sleeping or passed out on the sidewalk, commuter barely noticed this 21st Century version of a sit-in.

Frankly, Wall Street just has more important things to worry about.  If the Dow keeps plummeting, those kids occupying the street might just have to start dodging the falling bodies of desperate traders.

According to Raimound Viejo, of Pompeu Fabra University in Barcelona, Spain:  “The time has come to deploy this emerging stratagem against the greatest corrupter of our democracy: Wall Street, the financial Gomorrah of America. It's time for Democracy Not Corporatocracy.  The anti-globalization movement was the first step on the road.   Back then our model was to attack the system like a pack of wolves. There was an alpha male, a wolf who led the pack, and those who followed behind. Now the model has evolved. Today we are one big swarm of people.”

Actually, Spain’s economy is supposedly faring better than some of its European neighbors.  Funny, that a Liberal would use the term “Gomorrah”.  Maybe his English isn’t so good and he doesn’t quite understand what Gomorrah was.  If we use his illustration, Wall Street wasn’t a
“financial Gomorrah” under Capitalism.  But it certainly will be under government Socialism.

Secondly, it bears repeating that America is a federated republic, not a democracy.  We practice democracy certainly.  But the reason democracy isn’t our form of government can be aptly illustrated by the scene of new hippies staging on a sit-in on lower Manhattan’s narrow streets:  decisions are made by civilized voting not by mob rule, marauding wolf-packs, and swarms of people, unaccountable, irresponsible, and uncivilized.

The Dow is plummeting thanks to the financial destabilization of the European economy.  The Euro, as most people predicted when it was first introduced, is a disaster.  That’s why Great Britain refused to jump on the Euro bandwagon.  The disease has now spread to America, with a great deal of help from the Obama administration.  Like the rats they are, Euro-trash students hope to infect the brainwashed, socialized students here.  They want to feed on what they consider the carcass of Capitalism.

Meanwhile, it’s one more distraction for the NYPD in a time of serious and costly security problems.  The cops have been roughing these “students” up a bit, scraping their pretty little faces on the sidewalk and ruining their mascara with pepper spray.  The poor little dears.  The NYPD doesn’t take kindly to having its time wasted by sophomoric antics.  Among the many facets of American history that the students ignored while studying the glories of communism, they seem to have forgotten that they’re sitting-in within blocks of the fallen World Trade Center, where many of the NYPD and NYFD’s brothers and sisters died.

People who work for a living and depend upon investments in capital know that while there are certainly corrupt capitalists on Wall Street, it’s the U.S. government which corrupted them.  Get rid of the corrupt bureaucrats and politicians and corrupt capitalists will follow.  The taxpayers indeed bailed out some of America’s biggest companies – at the behest of the U.S. government, in order to bail-out corrupt unions which had bled the companies dry.  Unions that are, by their very nature, Socialist.

This is the 21st Century, not the 1960s.  Progressives can no longer play this game of creating a crisis and then blame it on their adversaries.  Our technology and means of communications are better now.  Conservative students are waking up – thanks to the Tea Parties - and finding they have a voice.  They are going to be a mighty force with which Progressives must content in the future.  Harvard Law School even has a Tea Party.  We highly recommend that they study this current situation and devise some ingenious strategy for pest control.  Start boiling the water, Harvard Tea Party!
